2008 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. With the segment's only rear-hinged side access doors, the regular cab gives excellent recline space and an easy reach to everything dropped behind the seat. At the other end of the scale, premium models include two-tone leather seats, polished 22-inch wheels and other touches: within those extremes lies something for everyone.  2008 marks the first availability of an xl-grade supercrew with 5. 5- or 6. 5-foot bed: maximum people space with a work truck ethic. Detail changes for 2008 run the gamut from functional to decorative, the latter a wheels and stripes package for stx models, the former a standard tachometer for xl and stx with manual transmission, tire pressure monitors on the heavy-duty package, plus the availability of a cargo management system, remote start, telescoping towing mirrors, and a rearview camera (that does not require purchase of a navigation system).  with one of the deepest beds in the half-ton pickup segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,050 pounds. A foose edition f-150 designed by hot-rod master chip foose will be available as a late-2008 model. The base f-150 xl 17,345) is a short, regular cab two-wheel drive. Wheels are steel, the grille is black and bumpers painted, vinyl covers the floor and seats, and the audio is am/fm. However, it does have intermittent wipers, map lights, a 40/20/40 split bench front seat with driver lumbar adjustment, and on supercabs 23,440) air conditioning. Since it frequently adds other upgrades and a larger engine, 4wd adds almost $6,000 (and a v8) to the most basic example and $3,000 to the lowest-priced supercab.  stx models up the ante without going broke, with body-color front and rear bumpers and grille trim, air conditioning, cd player, and cloth upholstery. A 4x2 regular cab short bed starts at $21,050 and a 4x4 supercab flareside goes for $29,045; there is no stx supercrew.  central to the lineup, and sales, is the xlt. To an stx it adds chrome bumpers, black honeycomb grille, remote keyless entry, power mirrors/locks/windows, carpeting, auto headlamps, tinted windows, and better fabric for the 40/20/40 seat. Hefty rubber mats protect the carpet; other upgrades include a leather-wrapped wheel, unique instrument display, and sport cloth upholstery with driver and passenger lumbar support. Monotone paint includes the bumpers (gray with tow-tone paint), flares cover 18-inch aluminum wheels, and the door gets keypad entry. On regular cabs 24,105-30,645) the fx4 is $5,750 over the fx2 and there's no long-wheelbase fx4; on supercab and supercrew 28,700-35,445), the 4wd version is a $3,295 premium.  the lariat label is reserved for more luxurious, car-like interiors, and does not include regular cab or flareside models; retail prices range from $29,895-$35,595. Fancy bits include 18-inch aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors with signal repeaters, climate control, leather-trimmed seats and steering wheel, powered driver's seat, trip computer, light-faced gauges, and chrome and arizona beige trim.  for 2008, ford will build 5,000 lariat limited f-150s, replete with serial-number plates, spun-metal instrument cluster trim, two-tone leather cabin, color-matched grille and bumpers, and three-dimensional chrome bed side badging. Limited models are offered only as 139-inch wheelbase supercrews in two- 35,160) or all-wheel drive 38,160).  top tier among regular production models is the king ranch, with castano leather modeled after the saddles that roamed the texas ranch. Exterior trim is similar to lariats, with color-matching components and arizona beige accents. At this level, items such as heated power seats and power-folding mirrors are standard. And the 2008 ford f-150 shows the evolution of 70 years of function. Angular means easy to clean, easy to park and gives maximum inside volume for outside space. The f-150 is easily recognized in any trim level by the circular front lights within a rectangular housing, stepped front window ledge, opening rear doors on the regular cab, and the tall bed. For 2008, extendable dual-element towing mirrors bring the f-150 in line with the bigger super duty pickups, as well as the ram, titan, and tundra. Any cosmetic sacrifice is well worth the extra visibility with a trailer behind.  pillars between the doors may yield a blind spot for those who sit more rearward and everyone should appreciate the windshield pillar designed to help preserve forward vision. The flareside really is more stylish than the styleside bed, that which is essentially a box with some character lines in the sheetmetal, and more space within. The chrome harley badges are a bit much for some of us, but it drew many admiring looks. interiorford has all bases covered inside the f-150, with plenty of patterns, textures and finishes, including at least three different gauges clusters, and the choice of a 40/20/40 split-bench front seat or captain's chairs in many models. Captain's chairs on fx and lariat models, especially with power adjustment and the optional adjustable pedals, provide good driver positioning for virtually everyone. Finding it may take some time because the backrest angle adjustment is manual and the power controls are on the side of the seat with the door very close.

It certainly fits that description with its sporty handling, exhilarating acceleration and powerful braking. Their names are like alphabet soup: cts, sts, xlr, srx. But driving one of them confirms cadillac now builds world-class automobiles.  it was the cts that kicked off this renaissance. Introduced as a 2003 model, its edgy styling immediately grabbed the spotlight. Praise of its dynamic qualities quickly followed from the automotive press, which focused on its superb rear-wheel-drive chassis. Two years later the cts is improved and more refined. The 2005 cts comes with a choice of these new vvt v6 engines, a new 2. 8-liter v6 and a 3. 6-liter v6 introduced as an optional engine last year. Nor would it feel out of place on a race track. Cts-v is only available with a manual shifter.  for 2005, a new six-speed manual gearbox is also available for the regular cts models. Both the 2. 8-liter and 3. 6-liter v6 engines are available with the six-speed manual or the more popular five-speed automatic. There's no confusing a cadillac with anything else.  the cts refines the cadillac tradition of vertical headlamps and taillamps that dates back to 1965. Viewed from the front, the cts is imposing, with its large louvered grille framed by sharp, vertical headlamps. The front air dam is all business, with simple rectangular foglights and a long narrow intake near the skirt. The cts has a short, high deck with tall, vertical taillamps. The view from the rear is broken up by the indentation cut widely around the license plate in a contrasting color. The cts-v looks a bit better here by using body colored plastic. interiorthe angular theme continues inside, although it was softened for 2004. The cts is sold in europe and the interior reflects that. It projects an idea that driving is serious business. Visually, it's an austere cabin, lacking the warmness of the new cadillac sts. The interior is a mix of high-tech textures, some of it dimpled like a golf ball. Many of the materials are soft and interesting to the touch. There's good support for the driver's right leg, and where the right shin touches it feels soft. There's a good support for the left leg as well, with a good dead pedal for the left foot.  the three-spoke steering wheel contains buttons for the sound system and cruise control, and is deliciously padded in leather for all but the part of the rim between about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock, which is trimmed in wood.  changing the temperature, adjusting the stereo, and operating the navigation system are easy and convenient in the cts. The center stack juts out from the rest of the dash, with the elaborate gps navigation system at the top center location. Climate controls are at the bottom, controlled by amber-lighted pictograms.  the stereo works well, allowing quick and easy switching from a news channel on xm satellite radio to music on fm to traffic on am to a cd. The small triangular speakers for the optional bose system are mounted on the a pillar, and look cool. Onstar is provided, allowing drivers to make hands-free, voice-activated calls. A tall driver or passenger will be comfortable in front and only slightly cramped in the rear. The rear seats are comfortable for two or three passengers, offering good leg room, though lacking in thigh support. There is a convenient pass-thru tunnel between the rear seats, to the trunk, if the split folding rear seats are ordered. driving impressionthe cts drives wonderfully around town. It cruises comfortably on the freeway and feels at home on winding roads.  the new 3. 6-liter v6 is silky smooth when cruising, less so at full throttle. It's a thoroughly modern engine with a 60-degree aluminum block, double overhead cams, variable-valve timing, electronic throttle control, six coils and a structural oil pan. The 2. 8-liter v6 vvt is a modified version of the 3. 6-liter v6 with vvt. The 2. 8 and 3. 6-liter v6 earn the same epa-estimated mileage of 18/27 mpg city/highway and run on regular 87 octane. Choosing between them is a matter of power versus cost. The five-speed automatic transmission is superb. In normal mode, it seems to shift a lot, especially at a casual pace. Selecting the sport mode changes the transmission's attitude, giving it sharp and decisive response. The automatic is an excellent choice for the cts. All three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can be promoted to ultimate king ranch status, with leather captain's chairs, premium audio, and unique identification.  i love the supercrew, which features luxurious rear-seat accommodations that can be converted into covered cargo storage. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5 1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup that's as long as an aircraft carrier. The top-rung lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with handsome leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  for 2002, even base-level xls are air conditioned. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all lariat models and optional on xl and xlt trim lines. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is now a standard feature on xlt models.  with colors and options thrown in, the model matrix is huge. And this matrix includes some specialty models.  new for 2002 is the fx4 off-road package, which includes 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with exposed lug nuts, rancho-brand shocks, three skid plates, a 3. 55 axle and p265/70r17 white-outline tires. The fx4 package is available only on 4x4 models, but the package price ranges from $620-$1165 depending on trim level and body style.  the high-performance svt lightning, packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Specialized wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited production image-generator is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch wheelbase.  also available for 2002 is a new limited-edition ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine, unique styling cues and a new color option: dark shadow grey. The 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is the third truck jointly developed by ford motor company and harley-davidson motor company. (it joins two other limited-edition models: the 2000 ford harley-davidson f-150 super cab and the 2001 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It is rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car than the dodge, chevy, or gmc. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The current chevrolet and gmc trucks are still pretty new (they were redesigned for the 1999 model year), but their conservative styling doesn't look as modern as the ford's. The dodge ram has been redesigned for 2002, but retains a retro look that won't appeal to everyone (at least not as intensely as it appeals to its die-hard fans).  the f-150's aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering off road, for parking, and when navigating in tight city traffic. Like the ram, however, its fenders seem to fill small rural roads. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  the 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew incorporates styling cues of the past with an innovative flair. The front end of the vehicle features a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the harley-davidson bar & shield. For 2002, a distinct rivet design surrounds the center of the 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed cast-aluminum wheels, complementing the center caps that display the harley-davidson bar & shield. Flame pin striping and chrome accessories complement the overall package. As in the past, the ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is lowered one inch. It features a specially tuned exhaust system with a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler, ending in chrome 3 1/2-inch 'slash cut' exhaust tips. interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. The designers adapted these cues to the pickup's larger cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and in some ways better executed than the gm and dodge, big and bold but not outsized for a big vehicle.  the mid-range f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats recline, and a lumbar support on the driver's side provides even more driving comfort.  all ford pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice place to change into and out of driver's suits when we go racing.  supercrew's rear seats fold down (and are split 60/40), offering a nearly flat luggage space. It's a great place to put cargo or big dogs. I like putting all my equipment back there when i go fly fishing. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. This is because they use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear.  up front, the 2wd pickups use a coil-spring independent suspension, while the 4x4 versions use a torsion bar front suspension.  power steering is over-assisted, to make it easier to park and maneuver in tight quarters.  we find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little duff for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. 2012 volkswagen beetle review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It does this in a big way, with a clean-sheet redesign that makes it new again. It's the new beetle, not a new beetle.  the 2012 volkswagen beetle jumps like a bug on a skillet from its heritage. It's 7. 3 inches longer, 0. 5 inches lower, and 3. 3 inches wider than the 2010 new beetle, last one made. The stretch morphs it into a real car, not so much a cute little thing. It looks good with more dynamic proportions. It's still unmistakably vw beetle.  the coefficient of drag, 0. 37, is surprisingly good, although not near the lower (by 2 inches) honda civic, at 0. 315, or the smaller ford fiesta at 0. 33. Interior volume has grown by 5 percent, from 81 to 85 cubic feet. The roof is lower, but because it's also longer, there's a bit more rear headroom. In the front, it gains 1. 9 inches in legroom and 2. 5 inches in shoulder room, making the 2012 beetle feel less like a capsule.  the front legroom is 0. 7 inches more than that in the all-new 2012 toyota yaris, but the beetle's rear seat has just 31. 4 inches of legroom, which is 1. 9 inches less than the yaris, on a wheelbase that's 1. 1 inches longer.  the trunk of the 2012 beetle is spacious at 15. 4 cubic feet. With the rear seat folded it's nearly 30 cubic feet, and the high-swinging hatchback enables giant things to fit inside, making the beetle handy for hauling.  the seats and trim are neat but not fancy. The bucket seats are clean, simple, and comfortable, with excellent bolstering.  instrumentation is so clean it's memorable for its rarity. In the center of the big clear speedometer there's a multi-function digital display, accessed with a flick of the driver's right thumb, scrolling a small wheel on the steering wheel. It makes for safe driving!  the 2. 5-liter inline five-cylinder engine, with an iron block and double overhead cams, is carried over from the new beetle, but the horsepower increases by 20, to 170 hp. Torque increases by seven foot-pounds, to 177 foot-pounds at 4250 rpm. It's mated to a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, or optional 6-speed automatic transmission that didn't wow us. We've driven a vw golf with that 5-speed manual transmission, which is satisfying and gives the car pep from 0 to 60. We recommend the manual.  acceleration in the 2. 5l is adequate, and 75 mph on the freeway is smooth and mostly effortless. The 6-speed manual automatic transmission isn't as much fun as the manual, especially with this engine. The automatic's side-to-side semi-manual shifting using the lever at the floor was better than nothing, but not very racy.  a 2. 0-liter turbo model is also available that comes with a 6-speed manual transmission and a different rear suspension. The turbocharged engine makes 207 horsepower and 217 pound-feet of torque at a low 1700 rpm, and it gets about the same fuel mileage although on high-test gas. It's a 2. 0-liter turbodiesel with direct injection, making 236 pound-feet of torque. The engine has been used successfully for some time in the golf and jetta tdi.  the chassis is rigid and the body solid, with subframes front and rear, supporting the suspension. The rear uses a torsion beam, although the beetle turbo uses a more sophisticated multi-link, for the higher threshold of cornering. The freeway ride in the beetle doesn't suffer for the torsion beam. It's comfortable and consistent. Potholes don't hurt, but rough pavement can make the rear end of the car want to dance. lineupthere is a stripped-down beetle 18,995), but good luck finding one. It uses the 170-horsepower 2. 5-liter inline 5-cylinder engine and 5-speed manual transmission. It comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear disc brakes, power windows, cruise control, leather steering wheel, cloth seats, 50/50 split folding rear seat, trip computer, and 8-speaker sound system.  the 2012 beetle 2. 5l 19,795) adds body-colored mirrors, v-tex leatherette seating, 6-way manual seats with lumbar, heated front seats, a second glovebox, bluetooth and mdi (media device interface). A 6-speed automatic transmission is available 20,895). Options include heated front seats, three-color interior ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, and fender audio system.  the beetle is available as a panoramic sunroof model with added features such as keyless entry and touch-screen radio. It's available with manual 22,295) or automatic 23,395). The 6-speed dsg dual-clutch automatic-manual transmission 24,495) is available. The beetle turbo comes standard with bluetooth, ipod connectivity, three-color ambient lighting, larger brakes with red calipers, second glovebox, sport seating surfaces, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, foglights, three additional gauges, and alloy pedals. It makes 140 horsepower with a fat 236 pound-feet of torque, using either the 6-speed manual or 6-speed dsg. That's how the silhouette of the beetle changes, by making it 7. 3 inches longer, 3. 3 inches wider, and 0. 5 inches lower. The new shape is more dynamic and muscular; gone is the cuteness, although not the identity. Its coefficient of drag is 0. 37, a good number that still lags behind some competitors, and reveals the legacy of a round bug. The sleek 2012 honda civic, for example, comes in at 0. 315.  looking head-on at the new beetle, it's wide and chubby enough that the lines are actually horizontal. A narrow black mouth under the bumper spans the face like a pinched grin, under perky headlamps like eyes, and a hood seam that seems to define a wide nose, having one chrome nostril with vw in it.  at profile, the good-looking roofline is like a stylish tight arc, with roadster lines tracing to a 2005 concept car called the ragster, that had the look of a chopped-top hot rod.  the wheel cutouts are perfect semi-circles dropping down toward the pavement. In contrast to the smooth curves of sheetmetal everywhere else, the fender flares have squared edges, offering contrasting definition to the shape.  the beetle might be called a hatchback. The rear gate is massive. No compromises to the car's shape, for the utility of cargo loading. It's like the old bug, in a welcome way.  there's a decent amount of room inside the 2012 beetle, 85 cubic feet. Rear headroom, and front legroom and shoulder room is more than that in the new beetle, so it doesn't feel so much like a capsule. But it's not so roomy in the rear, with just 31. 4 inches of legroom, which is 1. 9 inches less than in the yaris, despite the beetle being nearly 14 inches longer. However, that excess length is mostly overhang; the beetle wheelbase is only 1. 1 inches longer than the yaris.  the 2012 beetle trunk has grown to a spacious 15. 4 cubic feet, a whopping increase of 27 percent over the new beetle; and with the 60/40 rear seat folded, there's a vast 29. 9 cubic feet behind the front seats. The rear trunk lid is like a hatchback or wide liftgate, so giant things can fit inside. With the dear old vw bug, there would have been no way, for even one of them.  there's good visibility out the front and rear, even with the low roof and high beltline. And it's a quiet ride. For example the extra glovebox, called the kaeferfach or beetle bin. For sure the simplicity of the instrument pan. Only minor metal repair at the cab corners were required to make it ready for a fresh 383 stroker small block with 202 camel back heads, a lopey cam, edelbrock performer intake and 750cfm electric choke carb, hot ignition, headers and a pair of fat dumps over the rear axle. This thing dynoed on the stand at 435 horspower!! Coupled to its 411 geared 9" ford rear end, 33 spline posi straight axles and racing studs through a smooth shifting 700-r4 tranny with a 2100 stall converter this motor makes for a match made in stoplight drag heaven. It is after all a pickup truck! The fact that the original straight axle leaf spring front end was retained gives this truck a throw back feel that loses little compared to a camaro/mustang front clip other than turning radius. The addition of power steering makes for effortless maneuverability on the beefy rubber wrapped around those gorgeous torque thrust wheels; a matched set of falken wildpeaks, 31x10. 5/15 rear and 225-75/15 front. A three inch aluminum radiator and a vintage air kit join the stroker motor under the hood to keep everything and everyone cool in the desert sun. The interior retains a vintage feel with a freshly upholstered bench seat, column shifter, underdash climate controls and requisite gun rack. All of the glass is flawless and the windows roll and swing smoothly; the cowl vent is operative. All of the interior lights, two charging ports (a. A cigarette lighters) and gauges are functioning properly as are the exterior lights and signals including those tasty amber period correct fog lights. The pictures speak for themselves and if these aren't enough message me for a link to another 100 or so. This truck aint all show however. It drives out excellent and sounds bad ass. It will shred those 10. 5 wide tires from a dead stop, chirp second gear for effect and cruise one fingered 80mph down the 51, ice cold ac blowing, no sweat.
